Several local organizations and stakeholders are hosting "A Taste of Winston County" on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 @ 5pm at the Louisville Coliseum 245 Ivy Ave, Louisville, MS. The purpose of this event is to showcase local farmers and their 2018's crops. Participants will have an opportunity to speak with local farmers and learn how they planted and managed their seasonal crops. Additionally, some vendors will offer sample taste of their products and others will have produce for sale. This event should help increase the awareness of local farmers' efforts to serve the community with healthier food choices according to Jean Harper. We are asking our local farmers to participate and bring their produce and other added value goods. We are asking our vendors to be present no later than 4pm.
Winston County Farmers grows a variety of fruits and vegetables for consumers to select and to build healthy meal plans for their families according to Allen McReynolds. We have two farmers who are producing Shiitake Mushrooms. Linda Stephen, a producer said, “shiitake mushrooms helps resolve hypertension and other health related issues”. If you are interested in learning more about shiitake mushrooms and other local produce, then, you should participate in "A Taste of Winston County." Also, this event will feature Dr. Charles Magee, a professor of biological and agricultural systems engineering at Florida A&M University, he will deliver words of encouragement and elaborate on opportunities in agriculture. As usual, this is a family friendly event, so all are invited.
