Eupora High School student Claire Milford was awarded the Good Citizens Award for the excellent essay she wrote. The award was presented by Shana Fondren on behalf of the Old Choctaw County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The Good Citizens Award and Scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.
The students are selected by their teachers because they demonstrate these qualities. Sue Boatman was the chairperson for the local DAR chapter and coordinated the selection process with Eupora High School.
The Daughters of the American Revolution are women who are interested in community service, preserving history, educating children, as well as honoring and supporting those who serve our nation.
Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join. Contact Sheila Fondren at 258-6522 for information about becoming a member of the local DAR chapter.
