At around 1 p.m. this past Saturday deputies of the Winston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a shooting on Pearson Rd. Sheriff Jason Pugh stated that apparently there was an argument between the victim, Kevin Edward Duell, and the assailant, Malcolm ‘Bo’ Miller, which escalated until Miller shot Duell with a 9mm handgun.
After being shot, Duell ran to a neighbor’s house; the homeowner called 9-1-1. Duell, a Meridian resident, according to his ID, was transported to UMC in Jackson. Pugh stated that it has been difficult to get information about his condition.
There were four other people present at the time of the shooting, including Steven Huntley, whose grandmother owns the house. According to Pugh, from evidence found at the home, such as needles and spoons, there appeared to be a lot of drug use.
Pugh said that the only real details they have about the incident have come from Huntley; the other occupants stated that they did not see anything. Pugh added that they are not sure what led to the shooting.
At the time of this writing, the suspect, Miller, was not in custody and Pugh added that they do not believe he is still in the area.
He said, “We have contacted family members. They are trying to get him to turn himself in for questioning by us, and to face whatever charges he might have to face.”
Pugh reiterated that at this time Miller is wanted for questioning only.
