Woodmen Chapter (Woodmen of the World) Ackerman Chapter 373 recently sponsored a food drive at Choctaw County High School to help restock the Choctaw Baptist Food Pantry. The organization was blown away by the results as the jr. high and high school students’ efforts brought in 1368 non-perishable items that weighed 1402 pounds.
As a reward for their efforts, the students were treated to a lunch buffet at Costa Mexican Restaurant. Woodmen Chapter thanks the staff at Costa for providing a delicious meal.
Woodmen Chapter 373 and its field agents would like to thank all of the students, teachers, office personnel and especially CCHS Principal Amber Vowell, who made the project possible.
A special recognition was in order for the two classes from CCHS that won the food drive. One of the winning classes, Mrs. Melissa Stevens’ homeroom, had only six students but supplied 324 items for the drive.
With such a small number of students in Mrs. Stevens’ class, the Woodmen Chapter was also glad to treat the homeroom class of Mrs. Caroline Duncan, who students were a close second with Mrs. Stevens’ students.
The performance of the students during the food drive says a lot about Choctaw County students , teachers, and school administration. No surprise to the members of the Woodmen Chapter that Choctaw County has the best schools and students.
A special thank you goes out to Woodmen agent Jerry Hemphill, who came and assisted with the food drive. Also a BIG thank you to Michael Bishop of the food pantry, and also to Austin Fulgham and Teliak Davis for helping Michael unload all the food brought by the school.
