Eupora Rotary Club members enjoyed learning about the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library at Mississippi State University on July 16.
Presenting the program were John F. Marszalek, MSU Giles distinguished professor emeritus of history and Ulysses S. Grant Association executive director and managing editor; David Nolen, USGA associate editor; and Eddie Rangel, assistant to the executive director.
They brought with them copies of “The Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant: The Complete Annotated Edition” and “Hold on with a Bulldog Grip,” a concise account of Grant’s life as a soldier, general, president and best-selling author.
The library was established in 2012 by the USGA. The university made a home for the Grant papers at Mitchell Memorial Library. Upon the 50th anniversary of the Grant Association’s founding, the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library was established at MSU.
In 2017, the library expanded space at Mississippi State. Construction for a larger facility began in the fall of 2017. The 21,000-square-foot facility includes two galleries, an orientation room, a research room, a processing room, office space and a cold storage room, as well as a gift shop.
