Served as county’s
1st female deputy
Family, friends and current and former co-workers gathered Saturday afternoon to honor Janae “JJ” Pittman upon her retirement from the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.
The reception was held at the Webster County Emergency 911 Center in Mathiston.
Pittman started her law enforcement career as a dispatcher/jailer under then-Sheriff Robert Cooksey in 1997.
In April 2001 under then-Sheriff Reuben McCluskey, she was promoted to deputy sheriff, making her the first female to hold that position in Webster County.
In 2002 she obtained her law enforcement certification at Mississippi Delta Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy located in Moorhead.
Since obtaining her certification, Pittman served as a deputy sheriff for Webster County for a number of years and now serves as a dispatcher/jailer under Sheriff Andy McCants.
