Landowners who want to improve an existing pond or build a new one can find guidance in upcoming educational workshop.
A Pond Management Workshop will be held Wednesday, September 25 at 10:00am.
The workshop location is Jim Turnipseed's pond, 4320 Weir-Highpoint Road, McCool. You can drive to the pond and park on the levee.
Bill Maily will discuss stocking rates, fertility, pond troubleshooting, population evaluation, harvest practices, recordkeeping, weed control and more. Participants are welcome to bring any weed samples from your pond to identify. It must be a fresh sample in a zippered bag. You may also bring a small water sample for alkalinity testing (free).
This event is sponsored by MSU Extension-Choctaw County, MSU Extension-Winston County and Winston County Firewise. Water, refreshments and educational materials will be provided. No charge to attend. Workshop is completely free to the public, and everyone is welcome.
