The Mississippi College baseball team won the Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship with a 7-6 win over Lee University on May 9 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field in Clinton.
Trey Pittman of Eupora is a member of the MC baseball team, whose GSC Championship is the first in program history for the Choctaws. Their 36 wins this campaign were the second most in program history and the most while competing in Division II.
The Choctaws earned the automatic berth into the NCAA South Regional, where they closed out the 2018 season with a 7-1 loss to the fifth-ranked University of Tampa in Lakeland, Florida, on May 22. Pittman accounted for one of three hits for the Choctaws in that game, which was the fourth consecutive elimination contest for the Choctaws.
Pittman hit .244 for the Choctaws this season, who finished with a record of 36-17. He started 12 games and played in 17. In 45 at-bats this season, Pittman had 11 hits and drove in four runs. He is son of Greg and Judy Pittman.
