The public is invited to attend the award ceremony for the presentation of Country Doctor of the Year to recipient Dr. Charles Ozborn of Eupora.
This award is presented by Staff Care yearly to an outstanding physician who exemplifies the essence of practicing medicine in rural areas of the country. This award is given on a national level, after choosing from multiple nominations.
Ozborn began his medical practice in Eupora in 1965 and has served this community since that time. He has patients in Webster County and multiple surrounding counties, as well. For 53 years he has treated his patients with care and compassion, and has been an integral part of developing the quality health care that is currently available in our community.
Ozborn began his practice at a time when specialty areas were practically non-existent. His practice has included general medicine, caring for expectant mothers along with delivering babies, emergent care, and patients spanning all years and decades of life.
He treats patients holistically with compassion that goes above and beyond all that medicine demands. In his time as a physician here, he has participated in education of the community, education and training of incoming physicians and nurse practitioners, nurses and staff members.
He was instrumental in the development of housing for the underserved and disabled members of this town. He has worked over the years to help facilitate the hospital and its development into the existing facility we currently have, North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.
“Many members of this community and surrounding areas have been impacted by Dr. Ozborn in one or many areas of their lives,” organizers of the ceremony said. “This is such an honor and we hope that if Dr. Ozborn has made an impact in your life, that you would join us.”
The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. March 2 at First Baptist Church of Eupora Family Life Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for the community and refreshments will be served at that time.
Community members are asked to write letters and words of encouragement or submit pictures of Ozborn that he may cherish.
People may submit these at the ceremony or may contact Traci Holloway at 552-0537 or Janice Wade at 552-1031 to submit if they will be unable to attend.
“Please join us to take part in this award and celebrate the longstanding service Dr. Ozborn has provided to our community,” organizers stated.
