WALTHALL: Mrs. Jim Sanders is visiting her mother, Mrs. Mann. - Mr. Henry Golding of Eupora was a pleasant visitor in town Sunday. - Miss Lutie Thomas and sister and Mr. Barnia Lovett and Miss Viviene Cooper have returned from a visit to Houston. - Miss Lou Lovett visited friends in Bellefontaine the first of the week. - Mrs. Van Stevens is visiting relatives in Choctaw this week. - Miss Henry Hightower visited home folks near Lodi this week. - There are eight applicants for teachers license last week. - Lee Bros. showed up here last Tuesday night sometime between midnight and day they left without paying license. The sheriff followed them and has not returned at this writing. - Marriage license have been issued recently to Tom Andrews and Miss Sallie McCain, W. C. Irwin and Miss Fannie Williams, B. G. Stallings and Pearl Perry.
Late last Saturday afternoon Mr. W. C. Erwin and Miss Fannie Williams, both of the northeastern section of Webster, drove up to the door of Mayor Frank Hood’s office and asked to see his honor. When that clever official responded he was at once informed that a matrimonial union was desire between the young couple and Mayor Hood, who is ever ready to aid Cupid in the completion of his work, forthwith preceded to “tie the knot.” “I pronounce you husband and wife,” said Mayor Hood in conclusion, whereupon the groom, thinking that was an expression of his gratitude was necessary, appreciatingly replied, “Thank-ee Sir.” After planking down the usual fee for the Mayor’s services, Mr. Erwin and his blushing bride turned their faces homeward and we trust will never regret the impressive little speech that Mayor Hood gave them in just 2 ½ minutes. We are informed that the wedding was a “Gretna green affair” and that they came to Eupora to escape the protestations of obstinate parents.
GLENLYNN: Misses Georgia Doolittle and Miller Ligon of Denton were pleasant visitors in our community last week. - The many friends at this place of Mr. J. T. Pryor of Slate Springs are grieved to hear of the serious injuries he is sustaining by being thrown from a horse on the 17th inst., while enroute to his farm near here. His physicians state there is a probability of his recovery. - Mrs. Heflin of Bellefontaine, accompanied by her daughters, Misses Mae and Myrle, and little son Leslie, were welcome guests at the home of Messrs. B. Skeltons and Joel Gregg last Saturday and Sunday. - Dr. W. R. Sugg of Eupora is in our community again this week on professional business. - Mr. Chas. Gregg, who is attending Bellefontaine school, visited his father’s family, Mr. J. T. Gregg last Friday, returning Monday. - Our young people enjoyed a musical entertainment at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Langston’s last Saturday evening. - The many friends of Miss Donis Gregg were delighted to meet with her at New Hope church on last Sabbath, she has recently recovered from a serious spell of fever. - Our farmers are progressing rapidly harvesting the “golden grain” since the favorable weather begun.
