SHIP: We have been having too much rain for the good of our cotton, but now that it has cleared off, everything looks more favorable. - Mrs. Sallie Erwin, who resides in the Delta, is on a visit to her parents here. - There is considerable sickness in our neighborhood just now, and the doctors are being kept busy. - D. J. Wood left for the Delta this week, where he expects to make his home. - Mr. J. M. McCain has his gin running all O. K. If you don’t believe it, just haul him a bale.
HOHENLINDEN: Miss Jeffie Chandler of Maben is visiting friends and relatives in this community. - Dr. W. S. Slaughter can now be found behind the counters at Logan Bros. - Miss Effie Wright visited the Misses Womack Sunday. - On Sept. 5th a Miss Logan made her appearance at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Logan. - Mr. H. T. King of Ruleville, Miss. visited his brother this week. - Mr. H. H. Burgess left Monday for Sapa. He will be engaged with Henley Bros. for some time. - Misses Vannie Foster, Ollie Wofford, and Messrs. Marshall Gore and Clarence Ward, of this community, are in attendance at the Bellefontaine high school. We are glad to see our boys and girls preparing themselves for usefulness in life.
CUMBERLAND: The Baptists had a glorious meeting here last week. - Mrs. W. H. Thompson and son and Miss Rena May Logan attended preaching here one day last week. - Mr. O. C. Davis left last Saturday for a few days visit to his daughter, Mrs. Marshall of West Point.
TOWN AND COUNTY: Capt. J. E. Bridges of Tomnolen was in town yesterday. - Mrs. J. R. DuBerry has returned home from Iuka, where she has been spending the summer. - Mrs. Taylor Dunn returned Sunday from a few days visit to relatives near Winona. - Mrs. M. S. Pittman has returned from a visit to relatives in Carroll county and will be domiciled at the Hotel King. - Mr. Frank Roark, a former Webster county citizen now of Water Valley, is here on a visit to Mr. Lawrence Latham’s family. - Mrs. Ida Adams spent a part of this week in town with her father, Mr. J. H. Elkins. She was enroute home from Tomnolen where she visited her sister Mrs. Wm. McCorkle. - Miss Alma Brown leaves next Wednesday for Columbus to resume her course in the Industrial Institute and College. Miss Brown is a member of the graduating class of 1903 of that institution in both music and literary department. - Mr. L. A. Kelly, formerly of this place, spent a few days here. Mr. Kelly has just returned from Wetumpka, I. T., where he has purchased a home and was enroute to Sturgis to arrange to move his family to his new home.
