PERSONAL MENTION: Mr. Lee Scarbrough spent the first of the week in town. - Miss Lorine Naron is visiting relatives in Maben this week. - Mr. Harvey Byars made a business trip to West Point Wednesday. - Miss Vera Moore returned Tuesday night to Fayette, Ala. where she has a position. - Miss Mattie Forest of Stewart was the guest of Miss Laura Mackey Tuesday. - Mr. Charles Watts, our assistant depot agent, is spending several days with home folks in Elmira, Virginia. - Mrs. Thos. Teat and her sister, Mrs. Ed. Mitchell, of Slate Springs, left Tuesday night for Maben to visit their father, Rev. Massey. - We are glad to learn that Mrs. W. J. Avent, who has been confined to her bed at her son’s home here by continued fever, is rapidly recovering. - Misses Orlena Wiggins, Lida Brock, of Choctaw, and Pearl Moore returned Tuesday night from West Point where they have been attending the female college. Miss Wiggins will spend the summer with her uncle, A. C. Wiggins and family. - Mr. J. W. Wade, wife, and two children, recently of Wentzville, Mo. are late additions to our town. Mr. Wade is a first-class butcher and will go into the meat market business here with his brother. They have rented the Naron and McCullough store and will move into it in a few days. - S. D. Mackey and sister Laura, attended an ice cream supper at Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Randle’s, given by the young men of Tomnolen. - Misses Jettie Wiggins, Florence Lamb, Vivien Cooper, Corinne Williams, Maude Hardy, and Minnie Gwin attended the commencement exercises of the Maben school this week.
CALOOGA: The farmers are getting along well with their crops. - We are proud to see a large congregation out at Sunday school Sunday evening. - Mr. Luther Oswalt and sister, Miss Rotha, were guests at Mr. Tom Oswalt’s Sunday. - Mr. Jerome Hood still goes to see Uncle John Brown. - Quite a crowd of our people attended the memorial at Bellefontaine last Friday. - Mr. Thomas Hood of Bias, visited near here the first of the week.
ALVA: The farmers of Alva neighborhood were blessed with a good refreshing rain on the 17th and again on the 18th. - Mr. Jerome Gore was seen on our streets last Sunday. - Mrs. Alma Carr has had a very sick child at Mr. W. F. Rowell’s for the last few days, but is now improving. - Mr. James Cannon’s cancer, we are sorry to say, is gradually growing worse. - Mr. Dewitt Rowell, after a short stay at home, has returned to Scobey.
