The Red Cross Sale brings big crowd. Airplane was here and $400 taken in for Red Cross.
MANTEE RFD 1: The young people enjoyed an entertainment at Mr. Andrew Harden’s Saturday night. - Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Harden spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Skelton. - Mr. Hillie Womack and family spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis. - Mrs. Deed Easterwood was buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Sunday.
SHADY GROVE: An Ice Cream Supper was enjoyed by several young people at Mr. Jim Bailey’s Saturday night. - Mrs. J. W. Hobby left for Little Rock, Ark. to visit her husband who is in training at Camp Pike. He is expecting to see service in France soon.
WEDDINGS: Lindsey Stewart, son of Mr. John Stewart of near Fame, and Miss Sester Fason, the daughter of Mr. Tom Fason of the same neighborhood, were married last Sunday at the home of the bride’s parents. - L. C. Lucus and Miss Ada Bell Hawkins were married last week near Grady, Rev. V. J. Bell officiating. - W. H. White, son of Mr. Jesse White of near Dancy, and Miss Mavor Wofford, the beautiful accomplished daughter of Mr. Ira Wofford living near Hohenlinden, were married last week at the home of Rev. A. C. Ball, who performed the ceremony. - Hosea Kolb, son of Andrew Kolb, living in the Dolphin neighborhood, and Miss Etta Glasson, daughter of Mr. Will Glasson, a very successful nurseryman of near Mantee, were married last week at the home of the bride, Rev. A. C. Ball officiating.
According to the letter published in the paper from Dr. E. M. Ranck, College Veterinarian at Agricultural College, Miss., there is an outbreak of black leg in Mr. Sam Embry’s pasture. It is advised that all cattle under three years old be vaccinated immediately against this deadly disease.
EUPORA: James Robert Peery left yesterday morning for Grenada to take his physical examination for the Signal Corps. He has been accepted and will be sent to Plattsburg Barracks, N. Y. - Mr. J. H. Watts went to Memphis Sunday to purchase Ford cars. - Mr. J. L. Threadgill received a letter from Hester Threadgill, in the Marines, that he has landed safely in France. - Emmett Gunter, a member of the balloon squadron at Fort Sill, Okla., has returned to camp. - Everett E. Ingram of Camp Beauregard, La. is at home on a short furlough before leaving for France. - The Junior Mozarts enjoyed an entertainment at Mrs. A. N. DuBerry’s Monday night. - Miss Naomi Hardee has gone to Tulane University for the six-weeks course.
TOMNOLEN: Mrs. Jno. Hobby has returned from a pleasant visit to her husband, in training at Camp Pike, Ark. - Mrs. M. N. Randle left Tuesday for Woodland to visit her daughter, Mrs. Joe Stevens. - Mrs. Hugh Cameron is doing her bit. She has knitted 5 pairs of sox for soldiers in the past two weeks and is waiting for more thread.
