PERSONAL MENTION: Miss Addie Elkins is visiting relatives at Tomnolen. - Mr. W. H. Womack has been on the sick list for the past few days. - Mr. J. Eugene Hasselle of the Meridian Press spent Tuesday in town. - Mr. R. J. McCain has opened up a stock of groceries at his store, opposite the Mayor’s office, and is prepared to serve his customers in the future. - Mesdames W. A. Taylor of Clinton and W. A. Hurt of Winona spent a few days of the present week with their sister, Mrs. J. E. Darden. - News reaches here of the destruction by fire of Mr. B. S. Hardy’s saw mill, 8 miles east of here, near Clarkson, which occurred last Monday night. The origin of the fire is not stated. Mr. Hardy’s loss is considerable. - Mr. J. H. Bentley, a native Euporian who holds a responsible position with the Western Union Telegraph Co., at Dallas, Texas, is on a month’s visit to his mother, Mrs. Dora Bentley. Mr. Bentley has been absent for six years. - Hon. J. M. Arnold, a prominent attorney of Ellisville, Miss. and a son of Dr. F. N. Arnold of Walthall, returned home Tuesday after a visit of a few days to relatives in this county. Mr. Arnold also attended court at Pittsboro last week.
WALTHALL: Miss Ethel Golding is reported on the sick list. - We are glad to note that Mrs. James Moore and little daughter are improving. - There were ten applicants for teachers’ license last Friday and Saturday. - Mr. T. A. Finch and family of Eupora visited at Mr. T. W. Lovett’s Sunday. - Mr. Howard Oliver visited home folks Saturday and Sunday. - Mrs. Racha Crow of Pinto is visiting her mother, Mrs. Van Stevens this week. - Miss Lutie Thomas visited friends and relatives at Bellefontaine Saturday and Sunday. - Mr. Rube Lamb and Miss Stella Sorrell of Eupora were visiting friends here Sunday.
HOHENLIDEN: Mr. T. E. Hunter of Columbia, Miss. visited his mother, Mrs. S. G. Hunter, in this community last week. - The fine weather has enabled the farmers to make splendid progress gathering their crops. - Mrs. Faulkner, wife of Mr. Sam Faulkner who resides near this place, died last Wednesday. - Mr. J. W. Hunter of Eupora visited his mother here last Friday. - Misses Van Scott and Eliza Griffin attended the county examination at Walthall last Friday and Saturday. - Messrs. H. R. Wofford and L. W. King visited at Mr. H. H. Womack’s last Sunday evening. - Mrs. Burgess, who has been quite sick for several weeks, is, we are glad to state, improving.
Meagre intelligence reached here Wednesday of the unexpected death of Mr. B. I. Echols, a prominent farmer of the Mantee community in the extreme northeastern portion of the county, which sad event, occurred Tuesday night. A telegram from Hohenlinden to Mr. H. H. Holland at Walthall, a brother-in-law of Mr. Echols, stated that the latter was found dead in bed Wednesday morning, but gave no details.
