PERSONAL MENTION: Mrs. L. L. Bartlett is on a few weeks visit to relatives in Winona. - Mrs. J. H. Elkins has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Stanton, in the Bluff Springs neighborhood this week. - Mrs. G. W. Gordon’s friends will delight to know of her improvement after several days of severe illness. - Supt. T. W. Lovett of Walthall was in town Wednesday. He had spent a few days visiting the schools of the southeastern portion of the county.
DEATHS: Mr. Wesley Noax, an estimable young man of the Grady community, died at his home three miles west of here last Sunday morning at 7 o’clock, after a brief illness. Mr. Noax was taken sick on Wednesday of last week with a malady resembling jaundice. He gradually grew worse from day to day until the end came. His remains were interred at the family burial ground Monday morning, Rev. V. J. Bell officiating. The deceased was a son of Mr. J. T. Noax and was unmarried. He was about 26 years old and was a young man distinguished for his integrity, industry, and high moral and religious character. - Death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Henley at Sapa early last Sunday morning, taking from them their little five-year-old daughter Lula. The child had been sick for about a week and on Friday was seized with congestion, which attack resulted in her ultimate death. The little girl was a bright and intelligent child and many friends waft condolence to Mr. and Mrs. Henley in their sorrowful misfortune. The burial occurred at the Sapa cemetery Monday morning at eleven o’clock.
On last Friday afternoon, while returning home with a load of goods from this city, the team of Mr. Robt. Singleton of Bellefontaine, became frightened near Walthall and in the runaway Mr. Singleton was thrown from a high goods box, on which he was seated, to the ground. The heavily loaded wagon passed over his body, breaking two or three ribs and badly crushing one foot. He was carried home and Dr. E. F. Arnold summoned, who dressed his wounds. His injuries though serious are not necessarily fatal and at last report he was improving.
MARRIAGES: The consummation of a happy marriage is that of Mr. J. T. King and Miss Ada Mann, both of Carroll county, which occurred at high noon last Sunday, at Calvary church near Carrolton, Rev. L. J. Lott officiating. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. King of this place, where he has been principal of the public school for the past five years. - Mr. Walter Morris of Sunflower county and Miss Nora Murrah of near this place were united in matrimony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Murrah, two miles east of here last Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Morris left Tuesday night on the west bound train for their future home in Sunflower county.
