TOWN AND COUNTY: Mrs. M. S. Pittman returned Sunday from a brief visit to Winona. - Miss Addie Elkins returned home Monday from a few days visit to relatives at Winona. - Mr. W. H. Childes of Walthall was an appreciated visitor to this office Monday. - Miss Orlena Wiggins returned Wednesday from a visit to relatives at Tomnolen. - Col. J. E. Bridges of Tomnolen was greeting his friends on the streets here Tuesday. - Messrs. Henry Denton of Greenwood and Willie Denton of Shelby, Miss. have returned home from a visit to their parents here. - Miss Claudia Bridges, who has been spending several days with relatives and friends in this county, returned to Memphis Saturday. - Miss Adele Young, who spent the holiday season here and at Cadaretta, returned to Bessemer, Ala. Saturday, where she will resume her school duties. - Mr. W. H. Womack, who has been with Messrs. Taylor Bros. for the past few months, can now be found at the store of Mr. T. W. Ford, where he is ever ready to serve his friends. - Mr. Jos. Pratt of Walthall was in town Tuesday. Mr. Pratt will be in the race for sheriff this year and as he is one of the best and most public-spirited citizens of the county, he will make a splendid race. - Mr. T. W. Lovett, our able county superintendent of education was with his friends here Wednesday. Mr. Lovett will be a candidate to succeed himself in the opening campaign and will doubtless be a strong opponent. - Messrs. J. W. Morris and Bro., have bought out the meat market formerly conducted by Mr. Till Crowell and they state in their ad. this morning that they will keep at all times all the first-class meats of the season. Give them a trial order. - Mr. G. M. Atkinson, of our town, one of Choctaw county’s best citizens, returned Tuesday from a few week’s visit to points in Oklahoma and Indian Territory. Mr. Atkinson says this section is better in many respects than any of the country he visited and that he doesn’t wish to emigrate west.
NEW OFFICERS SWORN IN: The new officers recently elected to serve the town in their various capacities, were duly sworn into office last Monday, the oaths of allegiance being administered, his last official act, by Ex-Mayor Hood. The new coterie of officials who are to guard the interests of and preside over our municipality for the ensuing two years are: Mayor J. G. Felton, Marshal Lawrence Latham, Treasurer Zack T. Patterson, and Councilmen J. W. Hays, Jno. T. Marshall, W. G. Taylor, W. A. Embry, and W. A. Berryhill.
