NEWS FROM LONG AGO
JUNE 20, 1919
A FINAL WORD: Before another issue of the Plaindealer is out the Memorial Hall Drive will be in full sway the state over and every man, woman, and child that has a 1-16th part of an ounce of patriotism in their bodies will be doing what they can to help make it a success. When I accepted the Chairmanship of the Memorial movement I did it because of its tremendous appeal and its sacred purpose, confident that I could depend on the support of the patriotic citizens of my county in my efforts to perpetuate the honor of the boys of our county, for all time to come. I make a direct appeal to the Precinct Chairmen, men, boys and girls of all classes for their help in my efforts and I want them to fail NOT in their response. I believe the Hall will be built whether or not Choctaw County gives a penny, but I further believe that the boys who went to the war, their relatives, their friends, and yes, even their enemies would not want the names of the soldiers carved in the walls of the Hall if our county did not do her full duty in this move, then I make one more earnest appeal to you for your help. Don’t forget the meeting at Ackerman Saturday, June 21st. Yours For A Memorial, Marshall Spiva.
