75 Years Ago – December 24, 1943
FRONT PAGE: Gov. Paul B. Johnson, who recently suffered a second severe heart attack Monday night and has been bed-ridden since the first attack on November 3th, is still in “very critical condition” according to doctors.
DEATHS: At an early hour on Sunday, Mr. R. W. Suttle of the Rocky Hill community passed away. Bob, as he was known, was in poor health for the past few years but was seriously ill only a few hours before his death. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ray Jackson Suttle, one son, Joe, in service, and a daughter in high school, as well as three sisters and three brothers. Burial was in Rocky Hill cemetery.
BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Carr are to be congratulated on the birth of a fine son, born Dec. 9th, and named William Foster (High Point).
LETTERS TO SANTA: Dear Santa: I am a little girl 6 years old and go to Ford School. Please bring me a doll, tea set, fruit, nuts, and candy. Remember my teacher, Mrs. Higgason, daddy, mother, and three grandpas. Your little friend, Yvonne Miller. - I am a little boy 6 years old, going to school in the first grade. I want firecrackers, a box of candy, fruit, Doctor’s Kit, and a Tom Sawyer book. Be especially good to all the Army boys. Your little friend, Thomas Earl Shinn.
