NEWS FROM LONG AGO

FROM THE COUNTY AGENT: We did not have the best exhibit of any county at the State Fair, but we had some of the best products shown there, and we had an exhibit that was a credit to the county, I think. The judges said that we had the best corn shown there, and I saw no sorghum as large as ours. We won the blue ribbon on a bale of lespedeza hay grown by Mr. T. J. Griffin, on some turnips grown by Mr. M. L. Harris and on peanuts and its products selected from different farms. I think that Choctaw County did remarkably well considering that we only worked at getting up an exhibit for a couple of weeks while some counties have been preparing all season. - I would never have been able to decorate our booth at Jackson and put up our exhibit to the advantage that we did if it had not been for the faithful assistance of Mr. Lee Collier and his son, Cicero, who went with me to Jackson and helped me with all the work. - I was very much pleased with our Free Fair at Ackerman. The people brought out a splendid lot of exhibits and I think that everybody had a good time. I want to thank you for your presence and exhibits that contributed to the success of the occasion. On account of going to Jackson the next day with our State Fair Exhibit, I was unable to see personally that you all got your checks, but asked our treasurer, Mr. T. B. Stanley, to look after this for me. He did the very best he could, but if there was any mistake made in printing the winners or in awarding the prizes, we stand ready to make it right. - I am back on the job now after an absence of 10 days. We plan to make shipments of hogs and cattle from Ackerman and Weir in the near future. -There is a big crop of corn made this year in the corn belt, and we look for lower corn. If you have corn to sell, you had better sell now. - I am planning to make shipments of sorghum molasses in barrels about the middle of November. You had better list your molasses right away for this shipment. I understand that the market is about 85 cents a gallon, but I will find out and let you know next week. - I am listing turkeys for a shipment during the first half of November. If you are going to have any for sale, list them right away. We are going to try and get up a car, but if we cannot we are going to get into a car with some of the nearby agents.
