The Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System celebrated National Library Week recently by holding a total of 53 programs throughout the system between April 8th and the 13th. Programs included author book talks, painting and craft projects, bingo and family game nights, and presentations on local history, gardening, and the outdoors. Friends of the Library groups also held successful book sales, and hosted local elected officials at appreciation luncheons throughout the system.
Library customers also took advantage of the system’s first annual “Fine Forgiveness Week” by visiting their local library to return overdue items and get their overdue fines forgiven. The library system reports that they were able to waive a total of $1,518.30 in overdue fines system-wide. “We are thrilled with the response to Fine Forgiveness Week, and with our program attendance during National Library Week,” said director Josh Haidet. “It’s a tribute to the wonderful support of our local communities, and to the hard work our librarians put in each and every day to provide the best possible library experience for our patrons. We look forward to hosting everyone again for our annual Summer Library Program which kicks off in June.”
The Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System has thirteen library locations throughout Attala, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery and Winston Counties.
