Brooke Dodd was chosen as the NAGT State of Mississippi’s Outstanding Earth Science Teacher for the 2018-19 academic year.
Dodd teaches fifth-grade science at East Webster Elementary, where she was nominated by parent (and Mississippi State University Department of Geosciences faculty member) Christa Haney.
Dodd was recognized for excellence in earth science education because of her novel teaching methods, including the intensive use of experiential and hands-on learning. She also demonstrated professionalism, enthusiasm for earth science and her commitment to innovation in education.
The NAGT State of Mississippi Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award was presented by Dr. Renee Clary, MSU professor, director of the Dunn-Seiler Museum and NAGT Mississippi representative. Dr. Haney, the nominating parent, was also present.
The National Association of Geoscience Teachers is a North American organization that seeks to foster improvement in the teaching of earth science at all levels of formal and informal instruction from K-12 to the college level and to disseminate knowledge in this field to the general public.
