For the first time in a number of years Grace Christian School will begin the new school year with a new headmaster, Jason Morgan. Morgan, who is originally from the Memphis area, began his career in education at Grace Christian, in 2001, as a coach, while still a sophomore at Mississippi State University.
Morgan is married to a GCS graduate, Angie Suttle Morgan, and they will continue the GCS tradition as their three children will be enrolled at the school this year. Seven-year-old Elijah will be in second grade, Gideon (6) will be a first grader, and Hannah (3) will be in daycare.
The excitement in Morgan’s words was very apparent as he spoke of returning to the school. He said, “I worked here from 2001 to 2007, as a teacher and coach, and I have always had a love for the folks at the school.” He added that many of the people he worked with during his first stint are still there, and a number of his former students now have children enrolled which is exciting to see.
Morgan stated that in 2001, he was taking 18 hours of classes at MSU, working full-time at Domino’s Pizza in Starkville, and involved in a mercy ministry, when he was approached about a vacant coaching position at Grace Christian. Morgan told himself that this was something that he did not need to do because he just didn’t have the time.
Morgan said it’s amazing how God moves things out of the way and puts things in place. He interviewed for the job, and three days later they had their first basketball practice. He remained as a teacher and coach until 2007, and now, 12 years later he has returned as the headmaster.
Morgan has worked in public and private education in both Tennessee and Mississippi, and his time at GCS, working with so many dedicated, Christian educators helped to lay a very firm, solid foundation for his career.
He said, “I never forgot the things that I learned here, and it’s very exciting to have the opportunity to come back. It has done nothing but invigorate me and excite me.”
Morgan said that being Headmaster means service on a larger scale. As a teacher/coach he worked with a smaller group of kids, but as Headmaster he has the opportunity to serve and touch the lives of all the students.
Morgan stated that when parents choose to send their children to Grace Christian School they can be assured that the children will be in a loving, caring, Bible-based environment, they will hear about God on a daily basis, and their academic experience will be on a very high level.
