The last Maben Home and Garden Club meeting of 2019 was held in the home of Julie Fulgham, which is located on Douglastown Road, on Dec. 10. The December meeting is always a fun time with food, fun and fellowship with friends and Dirty Santa.
The Fulgham farmhouse décor was a delight for the ladies, young or old, as many could relate to decorative objects from their childhood. One item caught everyone`s eye – the metal hen nests hanging in the kitchen-dining room.
Everything was decorated with rustic farmhouse theme, which is the “in thing” now. Best of all was the warm welcome to all from our hostess of the day – Julie Fulgham, our current vice president.
After an inspirational devotion by President Jane Collins, which pertained to the shepherds in the Bethlehem area and their involvement with the birth of Christ story, the group paused for lunch of homemade chicken noodle soup and ham sliders and drinks. It was good to hear all the discussion about family recipes that have been handed down through generations. After the luncheon, the ladies moved back into the family room, which was beautifully decorated in traditional Christmas ornamentation, especially the stockings all hung with care that Saint Nicholas would soon be there.
Let the fun begin: all members numbered off and our hostess Julie adorned the Santa hat and the Dirty Santa Games began. Members could take a gift from under the tree or take one from a member as the game moved along — if they so desired; this did not mean they would get to keep because the name of the game is Dirty Santa. Gifts with the Red Truck motif were favored. Alas the fun ended after a while and everyone was reasonably happy.
The only item of business was that if you place the yard of the month sign please identify who lives there so the publicity chairman can acknowledge the recipient for the paper.
The next meeting will be Jan. 21 at the Maben Public Library with Skylar Willers, who will be speaking about greenhouses and seeds.
Until the next meeting: “Happy New Year.”
