On Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at 8:00 Winston County 4H Kayak Club participated in the MBCI’s 2019 Pearl River CleanUp.
There were 2 club youth members in attendance and adult volunteers Mark Gregory, Scott Stokes, Jerry Nance and Morris McDonald.
The attendees were greeted and welcomed by Mitzi Reed, Director of Choctaw Wildlife Department and several staff members and volunteers of the MBCI, who were all warm, inviting and generous regarding the participation.
Attendeees were given a mission statement and detailed safety briefing by Mitzi. Having received both instructions and refuse/debris bags we set off on both a fun adventure and meaningful task of picking up debris and refuse from the river banks and waterways.
According to Mitzi, as a combine effort, the groups collected a couple hundred pounds of debris and refuse from the river and waterway.
At its conclusion everyone acknowledged that they had improved their kayak paddling and maneuvering skills.
The youth members agreed to a t-shirt for next year and acknowledged this as the last club event for year 2019.
