Magician and entertainer Dorian LaChance came to the Maben Public Library’s Summer Reading Program on June 18.
He got the children’s attention with the “Baby Shark” song. The children loved his magic tricks about space.
The first one was a magic alien that kept popping up in a different place. He then called a couple of children, Rani and Jacob, to help with the next one.
It was about aliens stealing underpants if you hang them on the line. He gave Jacob a spaceship and Rani the underpants, and she placed them in a bag.
They then held a magic wand that made noises when he would touch their head, ear, etc. At the end the underpants had disappeared into the spaceship. The aliens had stolen them!
Another magic trick was to make Flat Stanley go to space. He needed volunteers Bo and Carolyn to help make gravity. Bo was supposed to spin so he gave him an old-fashioned egg beater.
Carolyn was to fold Flat Stanley and put him in a capsule. After spinning and counting down, Flat Stanley had disappeared. He looked for him on Bo’s back, not there; looked in his pockets, not there; they were found in a little spaceship he had built.
He then brought a puppet monkey out. His name was Charlie and he wanted to be the first animal on the moon, but Dorian told him there had already been an animal on the moon. So he said, “Well, I want to be the first monkey.” Sorry, there had already been a monkey.
After performing several other magic tricks all along the line of space, he gave all the children a bookmark with websites to watch magic tricks and to see a list of books on space that he had talked about. If you would like any of those books, I can get them for you.
Come join us July 2 for Freedom Ranch and a chance to interact with animals.
