MABEN — The Mayor and town board met in their regular session the evening of Feb. 4.
Present were Mayor Larry Pruitt; alderpersons Pat Harpole, Darell Bryant, Marlene Thomas, Rufus Harris and Robert Herd; Clerk Natasha Rose and town attorney Walter Zinn. Harris opened with prayer, and the minutes for the last meeting were read and approved.
Fire Chief Wayne Yeatman presented the contract agreement between Maben and Mathiston fire departments, which Mathiston Fire Chief Tom Booth had presented, and will be talked about again and voted upon.
A resident asked the mayor and board to consider beginning a Neighborhood Watch since there had been some burglaries in the last few months.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney, who was invited to the meeting, said his office will help in any way and will assist in getting signs placed.
Rose Coffee Graham reported on the Jan. 23 workshop at the city hall with people from New Jersey and New York called “Design the Life You Love” hosted by the Mayor’s Health Council” and the Controllers 4-H clubs.
Graham also announced a meeting on Feb. 22 at OCH Regional Medical Center and called for volunteers to have their hearts checked.
There was a lengthy discussion about the dog ordinances of the town of Maben. It was agreed to carry that over until next month, as Maben does have a dog ordinance, but any change will need to comply with those of the state.
All bills were approved, and the meeting adjourned until next month.
