The final monthly meeting of the 2018 - 2019 year for the Louisville Fortnightly Club was held May 16, 2019 at Lake Tiak O' Khata. The hostesses for this meeting were Mrs. J. E. Calloway, Mrs. T. L. Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Dan Curran, Mrs. Jerry Webb, and Mrs. Jimmy Burrage.
Eighteen members and two guests were present, and as they entered the meeting room, they saw beautiful floral centerpieces in bright colors on each table. A delicious refreshment plate including blueberry pie and cheese straws was served. Mrs. Stanley Hathorn called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Mrs. Calloway gave a wonderful devotion on Psalm 1:3 and reminded all of us to root our lives on God's Word and produce fruit. Next, Mrs. Kirkpatrick introduced Mrs. Tim Smith who gave a marvelous program on her mission trip to India.
Traveling with her husband Tim, Jamie, and Don Boone, Stephanie shared wonderful highlights from their recent trip. They ministered with two native Christian brothers that Tim, his Father, and Stephanie have supported for eleven years. One of those men has read his Bible 86 times!!!
They went to leper colonies and ministered to the outcasts of India's society. Along with their friends, they took rice and medicine to those living in the colonies. They ministered to the children also by telling Bible stories aided by a translator, and by passing out coloring pages and candy. Additionally, Tim and Don taught a three day pastor's conference called a Festival of Prayer.
Some interesting facts about life in this area in far eastern India include:
• curtains are used on windows instead of glass
• sheets are only used if one stays in hotels
• mosquito nets are used when one sleeps
• chicken and rice are favorite meals
• parents plan marriages for their children
• there is lots of dirt and no grass
• everything runs on diesel
• clothes are washed in the river
• men and women sit on different sides of the church
• shoes are removed when entering buildings
• there is one water pump per colony
• money is earned by owning shops and rice crops
Everyone enjoyed Mrs. Smith's presentation!! If anyone is interested in supporting this ministry, please contact Tim and Stephanie Smith at Stephanie's Shenanigans.
Following the program, Mrs. Hathorn called the club into a business meeting. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Collect. Mrs. Wayne Gordon gave the Treasurer's report and announced the winners of the club's English awards. Each year, the Fortnightly Club gives a monetary award to the senior at Winston Academy and Louisville High School with the highest grade in English. Recipients for 2019 are Anna Grace Woolery and Bria Hunt.
Lastly, the lovely floral centerpieces were given as door prizes and the meeting was adjourned with a reminder we will begin our meetings in September for our next club year.
