During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Louisville Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, July 17, Branch Librarian Beth Edwards presented an update of activities at the Winston County Library. Edwards stated that it had been a busy summer with very good response to the summer reading programs, and students still doing AR testing. She added that Bumpers, Hardee’s and Sonic have given coupons that are given to students when they finish reading a book, and stated that this is a greatly appreciated gesture from the businesses.
In other business, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to appoint Frances Edwards to the Historic Preservation Board for a three year term, effective August 1 running through August 1, 2021.
• Voted 5-0 to remove the property at 118 Foster St. from the unclean list in order to restart the process, and voted 5-0 to set a hearing for August 21 for that same property.
• Voted 5-0 to adopt a resolution adjudicating the cost of cleaning a property located at 51 Dawkins St. for $250, and file a lien against the property. The property is owned by Willie and Dorothea Loving.
• Voted 5-0 to adopt a resolution adjudicating the cost of cleaning a property located at 384 Warner Ave. for $300, and file a lien against the property. The property is owned by Sara Wragg.
• Voted 5-0 to accept the letter of resignation from Dalton Womble from Louisville Police Dept.
• Voted 5-0 to approve a request for Tonya McWhirter to attend the DARE Officer Training in Montgomery, AL on August 13-23; all expenses are paid by MS State Training Coordinator.
The Board recessed until Tuesday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m.
