On August 10, 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard (Lee) R. Frederick, Jr. of the 186th Air Operations Group / Mississippi Air National Guard was presented the Meritorious Service Medal and recognized for his service during Hurricane support missions.
From September 10, 2015 to September 10, 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard R. Frederick, Jr. distinguished himself in the performance of Outstanding Service to the United States Air Force while assigned to the 186th Air Operations Group. During this period, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick served as a C4 Planner providing cyber planning support to First Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. During this period, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick provided deployment planning and coordination for cyber equipment responses during several National Level Exercises as well as Hurricane Harvey relief operations. In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick served as the A6 Crisis Action team representative directing cyber responses between C4 planners in the Air Force North Cyber Coordination Cell and US Northern Command. During Hurricane Harvey, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick directed efforts for a technical solution that provided real time video feeds that enabled US Northern Command commanders to provide more rapid disaster responses.
In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick was recognized for his military service and support of Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. From March to May 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick was on Active Duty at Tyndall Air Force Base Florida attached to the 101st Air Communications Squadron where he served as the Interim Division Chief for Cyber Project and Plans. In this role, Lieutenant Colonel Frederick directly supported the planning efforts for the repair and rebuilding of base communication infrastructure, which was severely damaged as a result of Hurricane Michael.
Lieutenant Colonel Leonard (Lee) R. Frederick, Jr. is a 1990 graduate of Noxapater High School and a 1996 and 2000 graduate of Mississippi State University. Lieutenant Colonel Frederick is the son of Johnny and the “Late” Paulette McLeod of Louisville, MS and Lenny and Johnnie Frederick of Gautier, MS. Lieutenant Colonel Frederick is the Grandson of the “Late” John and Mildred McLeod of Louisville, MS and the Grandson of the “Late” Frank and Dorothy Klemm of New Orleans, LA, and the “Late” Raymond Frederick of Indiana.
Lieutenant Colonel Frederick is also the Son-in-Law of Robert and Patricia McWhirter of Louisville, MS. He is the proud father of five children, Tyler and Kaleigh Frederick of Wesson MS and Madeline Upton, Matthew Upton and William Frederick of Brandon, MS. Lieutenant Colonel Frederick currently lives in Brandon, MS, with his wife Pam “McWhirter” Frederick where he works full time as a federal government employee.
