Webster County resident Adam Contreras of Sapa attended the 2018 International Homeland Defense and Security Summit on March 13 in Biloxi.
The Mississippi Development Authority invited Contreras to attend as the owner of ALFA Training Institute, which conducts emergency management training. He also works for the Maben Police Department and the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
The state of Mississippi hosted the summit, where discussion centered on border security, maritime security, and terrorism prevention and protection. Representatives from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Israel and India all gathered to share their points of view on the critical issues of security.
Speakers included Gov. Phil Bryant; Chris Freeze, special agent in charge with the FBI; U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Paul Zukunft; and Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commander of the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army).
