The Ackerman Juniorettes hosted its first annual Father/Daughter Banquet February 17 at the Lighthouse located in Enon Presbyterian Church in Ackerman.
The Ackerman Juniorettes is a club of girls, ages 12-18 who learn leadership skills by organizing community service projects and doing fundraisers to help pay for these projects. Sponsors for the Ackerman Juniorettes are Debbie Bruister, Regina Jones, and Angela Paine. The Ackerman Twentieth Century Club, a part of the GFWC, also sponsors the Juniorettes.
Over 150 people attended the fundraiser to raise money by bringing the community together by creating a magical night for fathers, father figures and their daughters
Before the dancing began fathers and daughters could do various activities together, such as fingerprint father-daughter trees and “Why I Love You” cards. The daughters also decorated cupcakes for their fathers. The dance was DJ’ed by Mason Harris, who dressed as Prince Charming. He played the girls’ favorite music plus slow-dancing songs for the dads and daughters.
Besides Prince Charming, the Juniorettes dressed as Elsa, Snow White and Rapunzel. A fun photo booth was set up and the fathers and daughters were also given a keepsake 5x7 photo.
The Juniorettes are also active in the community in many different areas. They help at the animal shelter by taking pictures of the animals to be adopted. These are posted on the Facebook website and on Instagram. They also walked the dogs in the Ackerman and Weir Christmas Parades to help the dogs from the shelter get adopted. They have helped in numerous events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
For Veterans Day, they passed out toy soldiers to help people remember to pray for our troops. They painted faces at the Halloween Jam and helped with the nursing home Halloween event. Even though they are very active in school and church, the members make time to serve in the community.
