A recent survey by the website www.Niche.com has ranked Grace Christian School as the number 18 school among private schools in the entire state of Mississippi. The survey was based on several factors in which GCS excels. With an overall student population of 130-140, the student teacher ratio is 12 to 1. Grace Christian students perennially achieve high ACT scores and almost 100% of GCS students go on to four-year colleges.
GCS Headmaster, Jason Morgan, credits the success to several factors including the teachers, parents, students and the Christian-based atmosphere in which the students receive their education.
Morgan stated that the school endeavors to make Christ the center of the educational experience on a daily basis. Every teacher is a professing Christian; the students attend chapel every Wednesday, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has a presence on the campus, as well. Morgan added that an attempt is made in every class to present the material from a Biblical perspective.
“One of the things we’re very conscious of is that we have the word ‘Christian’ in our school name,” sadid Morgan. “I think when you put that word in your school name it is a tremendous burden, but it is also a tremendous blessing. You’ve got a responsibility to be what your name says.”
In addition to excellence in the classroom Grace Christian has developed a very successful volleyball program. According to Coach Jamey Willers, at the time of this interview, the team boasted an 11-4 record in competition against schools of all sizes. Willers stated that GCS plays Christian schools, private academies, and public schools as large as the 6A classification.
Players Carley Peterson and Jasmine Kelly stated that the volleyball court is an outlet for their competitive spirit and an opportunity to build camaraderie and a teamwork foundation that will help them later in life.
