A business in Eupora’s downtown area received moderate damage in a weekend fire but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading.
Webster 911 dispatched firefighters to a report of smoke visible at Bright Ideas and Second Chances at 9:22 p.m. Saturday. The building is located at 2768 W. Roane Ave. on the south side of the street between Dunn Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The antique store was closed and no one was inside.
The Eupora and Walthall fire departments responded to the blaze, which Eupora Fire Chief Mitch Jackson said started between the store’s roof and attic area.
Eupora Fire Chief Mitch Jackson said about 35 firefighters from the Eupora and Walthall departments battled the blaze until around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The fire started in-between the store’s roof and attic area, he said, and firefighters were able to keep it from spreading as they worked to extinguish the flames.
The building suffered moderate fire and water damage, according to Jackson. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to be electrical in nature, he said.
The fire chief thanked the Walthall Fire Department for its assistance. Belinda Stewart of Early Grove Properties 2, which owns the 1940s-era building, thanked both fire departments for their work in extinguishing the fire and keeping it from spreading to neighboring businesses.
Tammy Bright, owner of the Bright Ideas and Second Chances, thanked the fire departments and first responders for “an awesome job” in a social media post.
