A fire destroyed a mobile home and camper last week on Wright Road.
The Walthall Fire Department, Eupora Fire Department, Mississippi Forestry Commission and Emergency Medical Services from North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora responded to the structure fire at 1595 Wright Road.
The fire that destroyed Travis McCain’s mobile home was reported at 3:05 p.m. Thursday. The spreading flames also burned a camper and several acres, with MFC containing the grass fire. The fire started in the kitchen of the mobile home , according to Webster County Fire Coordinator Barry Rushing.
Family members and Rushing said three occupants of the mobile home and camper were taken to NMMC-Eupora to be treated for smoke inhalation or burns. McCain’s wife, Janice, received mostly first-degree burns on her face, arms, hand and chest, according to family members. She was transferred to the burn center in Jackson for observation and was released Friday, they said.
The American Red Cross has provided temporary housing, said family members, who thanked those who have made donations such as food and clothing.
Other house fire
Two local fire departments responded to another house fire last week in Oktibbeha County.
The Maben Fire Department initially responded to the house fire on Sturgis-Maben Road around 8:20 p.m. March 14. The home is about a quarter of a mile off U.S. 82.
Maben Fire Chief Wayne Yeatman told the Starkville Daily News no one was injured but that the house was destroyed. The Mathiston and Sturgis fire departments were dispatched for assistance.
Yeatman said all of the departments spent about five hours at the scene containing the fire, which he said was spread rapidly by the wind. The cause is unknown, but Yeatman said the fire started in and around the center of the house, toward the back.
