On Tuesday morning, April 9, 57 Winston County students along with administrators and sponsors, gathered at Lake Tiak O’Khata for the 15th Annual Salute to Success ceremony. These students were recognized as Mississippi Scholars and Mississippi Scholars Tech Masters. Also, present were local and state elected officials and a representative from the office of U.S. Representative Trent Kelly.
A breakfast was sponsored by Louisville Bankers Association, The Refuge 107.1 and the Winston Partnership; the Partnership’s Executive Director, Glen Haab, was guest speaker.
Scholarship was sponsored by The Taylor Group, The Jewel Shoppe, The Bankers Association, Hughes Management, Babs Fulton and McCully & Associates. The Mississippi Scholars Team consists of Mary Snow, Coordinator, Betty Byrd, B.J. Kelleghan, Joyce Nance and Margaret Taylor.
A former Winston County Mississippi Scholar, Elijah Caudill, spoke briefly, followed by remarks by Haab, both pointing out the benefits of hard work, self-discipline and faith. All students were presented with special medallions to be worn at graduation.
