Eupora’s Stephen Edwards got to see one of his favorite players play one last time.
Eupora’s Edwin Herard was the lone representative for the Eagles in last week’s Northeast Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star football game played at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Herard, a Holmes Community College signee, was named the Defensive MVP for the South squad that dropped a 28-25 decision to the North on Wednesday.
Edwards said Herard had a good week as he played on both sides of football but mainly played safety on defense.
“He had a good week of practice and had a good game,” Edwards said. “We got down 21-0 in the blink of an eye. We put him in at quarterback and he gave us a spark. He had a 25-yard run that got us going. We ended up scoring on that drive and getting back in the game.”
Edwards said he was proud of his squad for not giving up when they got down 21-0.
“We got down quick but our kids never gave up,” Edwards said. “it was a friendly game but both sides got after it. I thought Keevon Patterson from East Webster played really well. He had some big catches for is. And I thought Noah Hatcher did a good job at center for us. Webster County was well represented and I am proud of those guys.”
Edwards said he enjoyed the week as a whole.
“I was tired by the end of it,” Edwards said. “We had two two two-a-day practices and I haven’t done that in a while. I enjoyed spending time with the coaches and working with those guys. I got to coach some Calhoun City kids that I had in the eighth grade and enjoyed working with those guys. I thought the kids had a good time and grew together and made new friends. These are all things that will help them out in the future and that’s what this is all about.”
