After viewing, discussing and writing literary analysis essays on the movie “Wonder,” the students in Lyn Blaylock’s English IV and composition classes wanted to explore ways to incorporate more kindness at Eupora High School; thus, the “Kindness Project” was invented.
Students began brainstorming ways to encourage kindness throughout the school. They created posters with quotes on kindness, tips on bully prevention, affirmation quotations and life lesson suggestions.
Once the posters were made, students laminated them and placed them throughout the school. Posters were put in all bathrooms, hallways and public areas. In addition, students handed out kindness bookmarks to every student in school.
Throughout this project, seniors made announcements via the morning announcement that encouraged kindness and ways to reach out to others when bullying occurs.
All the students involved felt that teaching students to be kind can go a long way in helping to change the world.
“When given the chance to be right or kind, be kind.”
