There is an old story about evangelist Dwight L. Moody upon his return from a tent revival.
Dr. Moody told someone, “Two-and-a-half people were saved,” which made people ask, “Do you mean two adults and one child?”
Dr. Moody replied, “One child and one adult.”
Everyone in the church is important, and especially children, because a church without young people will not last for long.
This is just what Double Springs Baptist Church on Maben-Sturgis Road, pastored by the Rev. Michael Baham, is working to do in the teaching of the Word.
On Oct. 30, from 6-8 p.m., the church hosted its Fall Festival, including trick-or-trunk for the children. It got the word out by telling people, and also by social media, which can be used for good things.
Double Springs Baptist does have a Facebook page, and for the last few weeks had this event planned, and invited people to come. So, many people did show up that night, including many young people who were in their costumes.
They even had many delicious treats on a table, such as hot dogs, hot and mild chili, drinks and other things. The children and adults all enjoyed the night, and sat in the fellowship hall visiting.
Brother Joe and Irene Shurden would’ve been there but were unable to attend because Brother Joe is in the University Hospital in Jackson. They are both good supporters of the church and many other community events.
Everyone there missed them. They are praying for them, are concerned and love them. In this world, it is good to see a church that cares for adults and children as well.
