Sept. 1- 30
The month started out with our community events meeting. It’s a time where we can give back to the community and do things together. This time we are gathering things for Operation Christmas Child boxes.
We invite the community to help us. If you would like to donate a box just drop it off at Diversicare of Eupora. At the end of the week we had a new helper. A young man came, I think he was about 12, and his name is Levi Cantrell. He was a very polite young man. He sang to us and read to us. Such a fine job he did.
The second week of September started our annual Bible school. We have done this now for I think six to seven years, with this group anyway. Ms. Anne Cole leads the teaching and she definitely has a way of teaching that we all can get just get lost in the Bible.
The rest of the group is from Mathiston First Baptist, Victory Baptist and probably some others I’m sure I left out. But this group is faithful and man are they good. They bring the best music to sing and the best crafts to do every single year.
Later in the week too we had the kids from V’s daycare come over and sing to us. We really enjoy when the kids come over. We thank them; I know it’s a job!
One day during Bible school we had some helpers from the nursing program at Holmes Community College. They are trying to get some community service hours so they chose time with us. We had a good time. I think one is Leslie’s daughter, Hartley Files, and her friends were Ashley, Madelyn and Will.
We had some good harmony with the Heavenly Highway Singers this week. Penny Auction was a fun one too. I got a necklace and a hair bow. I told them it was for my granddaughter but they didn’t believe me. Later in the month Shirley Henley borrowed two other singers, Linda Williams and Sandra. The three of them did a fine job.
Our numbers in the activity room are growing; we may have to bust a wall out! One day the number was 32 and more were out in the hallway listening. The next day they just kept wheeling them in; the number got to 40! I really didn’t think we would all fit but those two Leslies figured it out. That Donnie Buckner can bring the crowd; it’s either the “Crawdad” song or “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain.” Either way he can really bring a show!
We have a new girl bringing us some goodies now from Legacy Hospice for bingo, I think once a month. We are always excited for some new stuff, especially the ladies.
And we ended the month by Leslie taking us to Spain (not really but we always talk about another country and try to eat their food). It’s always an interesting activity and definitely a fun time to try the food that they eat in the country. This trip reminded me of when I went to Spain. I actually watched the bull fights. No, that was just bull. Ha-ha. I didn’t see any bull fights; I’m just testing y’all to see if you really read this!
Now I need to shout out some nurses that are doing an amazing job. The first ones are Jordan and Courtney. Well, they got another sidekick. Her name is Janet Smith. Most Smith names are common but not this Smith. She is from the Philippines. And although she is learning (and so am I still) she is doing a fantastic job along with the other two.
There is also a nurse names Kay. I speak to her in passing and she is always working hard. She always has time to say a few words though. She has been a nurse for 25 years. We appreciate all our nurses.
