The first Wednesday always starts us with some wonderful surprises from Sugarland Donuts. This day is a real treat and we love it! Probably a little too much.
Singers come and we love it when new people come in and help with the singings. Later in the week I stayed in my room and watched the hummingbirds from my window. They have been gone awhile but now they are back. I love watching them. Do you know why they call them hummingbirds? Because they don’t know the words to the song. Ha-ha. They sound just like me when I try to help out around here and play the guitar and sing.
On Monday it was voting day and I done my part. I hope everyone else will do theirs; it really matters. Later that day the Community Singers came and they had some new people with them. They did a really good job.
Tuesday Ms. Sandra and Mrs. Louise Hill came and Mrs. Hill sang a solo. What a great voice she has. At lunch we had a visitor at our table, I think seeing Ms. Helen but I’m not sure because he spoke to everyone. His name is Charles McClellan, the minister of music at Mathiston First Baptist. His wife is Regina and they have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Later on Thursday, we had a BIG SURPRISE; Toad Donahoo and his friends came to play for us. It is always a treat! Friday everyone’s hair and nails were looking good so I knew Marlee had been busy in the beauty shop. Sunday I got to go out and enjoyed the Depriest Family Reunion.
The next week we had Bro Rob Faulk. He always lifts our spirits with his funny stories and with his great picking and singing. He is a good preacher.
Wednesday we had Fair Day! It was really fun! We had popcorn, corndogs and you can’t forget cotton candy. Ms. Weaver said she never had ate any but when she tasted it she said it’s just sugar melting in my mouth. Yep, that about summed cotton candy up!
I really enjoy writing and I’m thankful that I can share it with you. I love letting you know how we live here at Diversicare! Just so you know we love visitors and we welcome the community to join us in activities anytime! I love to greet people too; if I could stand up I would buy a nice pinned striped suit and meet you at the door.
Saturday the Rachel Jenkins family came. They always sing lots of songs and we thank them for continuing to put on this show.

We had our semiannual memorial service where we honor those who have passed in the last six months. We invite the families and have music and a message.
This is a special time for us because we are not able to make it to our friends’ funerals. Angie Ruth from Kindred Hospice helps with this each time and she always brings their clergy. It’s a great service.
Penny Auction was that afternoon. Everyone loves Penny Auction. You start out with 15 pennies to bid; everyone has the same amount. Some outbid others and some just hoard their money. I usually bid on everything just to get it started or to play jokes on people!
That night was Monday Night Bingo! We would love for the community to come out and play with us! Usually starts around 5:45. Mr. Charles Huggins is back this time with his wife and we enjoy some fine singings. Thursday I tried to lead us in some singing because Mrs. Debra had to go be with her daughter. I hear she has a new grandbaby. Friday night Mr. Robert Goodwin came in around 6 o’clock and played us a few songs.
The next week we had Art for Others where we meet to help paint some pictures so we can share it with those that can’t get out. But that’s what it is for me, Art for Others. I don’t do art very well and I can promise you others would be glad I didn’t share it with them. I didn’t go down there; I’m just going to write about it! Ha-ha.
This week we celebrated Elvis all week. The staff even dressed in the ’50s style for our Elvis impersonator, Mitchell Johnson. He did an amazing job! Later in the week we had our luau with banana splits and the staff came in all dressed out. They even did a hula dance! They might need practice.
Friday was a pretty day; I sat outside a lot. After enough sun I had to come in so I sat with others in the hallway gossiping. I don’t gossip though; I just listen.
We’ve been watching the news of Hurricane Dorian; not sure where it’s going but it just hit the Bahamas. I pray for everyone involved.
