Maben Lions Club president Shawn Nygard welcomed Cathy Dodd Davis of Maben into the club after First Vice District Gov. Andy Kalinowski of Columbus inducted her into the club on July 9.
Joe Ann Williams of Maben will be her sponsor and will mentor Cathy to get her off to a good start.
During the induction VDG Andy K. gave Cathy a short history of Lions Clubs International, including the challenge by Helen Keller to the 1925 delegates at a convention to become Knights of the Blind.
Thus, the main focus of Lionism is to help people with vision problems around the world.
The Maben Lions Club meets this challenge by collecting gently used eyeglasses that are no longer in use to be recycled and used around the world to aid people with sight problems.
Lions clubs also help local people who can’t get glasses any other way to be tested and fitted with new eyeglasses.
Other focus projects include help with diabetes awareness, improved environment, hunger needs and children with cancer. For more information call 263-8458.
