Choctaw County still displays a trending decrease in its unemployment rate, while the state continues to post records lows for its rate during the month of April 2018.
Choctaw County’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) for the month of April 2018 was 4.3 percent, which was a 0.4 percent decrease from the March 2018 rate of 4.7 percent. The county’s February 2018 unemployment rate was 5.0 percent.
Mississippi’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in April 2018 was 4.6 percent, the second lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi.
The April rate is one-tenth of a percentage point higher than a month earlier in March 2018, when the rate was 4.5 percent and seven-tenths of a percentage point lower than a year ago in April 2017, when the rate was 5.3 percent.
In April 2018, there were 1,100 fewer jobs in Mississippi than in March 2018, but 14,900 more than April 2017, according to the seasonally adjusted results from a survey of Mississippi employers.

Mississippi’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2018 was 4.2 percent, decreasing one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month’s rate of 4.3 percent. When compared to the April 2017 rate of 4.6 percent, the rate decreased four-tenths of a percentage point.
The unadjusted rate of unemployed people in Choctaw County for April 2018 was 4.3 percent, with the number of unemployed people being 160. The number of employed people in the county for April 2018 was 3,550.
In the revised March 2018 numbers, the unadjusted rate of unemployed people in Choctaw County was 4.7 percent, with the number of unemployed people being 170. The revised number of employed people in the county for March 2018 was 3,470.
In April 2018, the Civilian Labor Force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for a job, increased 1,400 over the month to 1,275,200. The number of Mississippians working rose in April by 500 to 1,217,000. Over the year since April 2017, the Labor Force fell by 7,100, while employment in our state increased by 2,600
The number of unemployed Mississippians increased by 900 in April to 58,200; however, over the year since April 2017, the number of unemployed Mississippians decreased by 9,700.
The number of non-farm jobs in Mississippi edged downward by 1,100 in April to 1,164,500. The April 2018 job figure is the second highest number of jobs ever recorded in Mississippi.
For the month of April 2018, twenty-five counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 4.2 percent. Rankin County posted the lowest unemployment rate for the month of April at 3.1 percent followed by Union County at 3.2 percent.
Jefferson County had the highest unemployment rate for April at 10.5 percent followed by Issaquena County at 8.4 percent.
Over the year since April 2017, the number of jobs in our state increased by 14,900. These numbers are based on a survey of employers. That employer survey is recognized as the most reliable indicator of job growth.
