City Engineer Stanley Spradling gave a presentation about the public water supply in Eupora to the Eupora Rotary Club on April 17.
Spradling said a good public water supply is needed to be a viable community.
“We take public water for granted,” he said. “Your public water supply here in Eupora is the best value in a utility you get.”
Eupora has a source of good groundwater but its public water supply is fairly old, he noted.
The city has applied for water system improvements through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service, which is a unit of USDA Rural Development. Spradling said Calvert-Spradling Engineers anticipates the city receiving a grant/loan combination to fund the project. It is estimated to cost $3.7 million and will take about two years to finish.
The planned scope of the project involves:
• A new deep-water well to be drilled in Tomnolen.
• A new 200,000-gallon elevated water storage tank
• A new 16-inch water line from the new elevated tank to the Tomnolen area, where the wells are located
• Repair and replacement of water lines at Whites Creek and creek crossing on Highway 9
• Additional storage capacity at the LaGrange pump station
• Generator at the Walthall pump station
Spradling noted that Sapa, which the city has supplied water to in the past, now has its own well. He also mentioned the city’s grant-funded lagoon stabilization project.
