The 2019 Choctaw County Christmas Parade will be Thursday, December 5th at 6 p.m. in downtown Ackerman. The theme is Christmas Through the Decades.
The route of the Christmas Parade has been changed. Instead of going down Main Street to Highway 15 and turning onto Cherry Street, the parade route will go down Main Street to Louisville Street and turn onto Cherry Street. The Chamber of Commerce asks everyone to gather on Main Street and Louisville Street to enjoy the Christmas Parade.
The full route is: Begins on Main Street (4-way stop at Commerce Street) travel down Main Street, turn right at 4-way stop onto N. Louisville Street, travel to 4-way stop and turn right onto E. Cherry Street to continue to Ackerman Baptist Church.
Parade line up begins at 5:15pm on Main Street near Dewey Street and goes back towards College Street at Choctaw County High School.
The Christmas fun begins before the parade with Parade Day activities such as the Silent Auction, Santa’s Workshop and Entertainment.
Parade Day will start with the annual Silent Auction at Ackerman Town Hall from 11am – 5:30pm. Silent Auction proceeds go to the Nursing Home Auxiliary. Items at the Silent Auction are handmade crafts and goodies with at least a $25 value. Contact Patty Draper if you would like to donate or for more information.
Santa’s Workshop will begin at 3pm at Pap’s Place. Parents bring your children to experience Santa’s Workshop and see Santa Claus himself. Santa’s Workshop will feature three craft stations, two games, face painting and a chance to meet Santa and take your photo with him. It costs $1 per child to enter the Santa’s Workshop. This will be open from 3-5:30 p.m.
Don’t worry about supper before heading to downtown Ackerman. Local school groups will be setup with chili and crackers, cotton candy and a bake sale. These groups are selling food as a fundraiser. The Chamber of Commerce will be selling drinks and popcorn and the Mississippi Lignite Mining Company will be giving away free hot chocolate. These vendors will be setup in the Depot Parking Lot beginning at 3 p.m.
Christmas carols and some of your favorite holiday songs will come from the Pavilion. Local choirs, groups and individuals will perform from 4:30pm – 6pm.
The grand finale of the Christmas Parade Day will be the Choctaw County Christmas Parade at 6pm. The Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries now. Contact the Chamber if you would like to participate in the Parade.
