Christian Ashford, the son of MAJ Aubrey R. Ashford and Daisy Ashford and the grandson of R.B. and Ommie Ashford recently won the Boys and Girls Club Military Youth of the Year (YOTY) for Washington State in Seattle, WA and the Pacific Region YOTY in San Diego, CA. Christian Ashford was awarded $45,000 in college scholarships funds.
As Washington State and Pacific Region Military Youth of the Year, Christian is leading the fight against bullying by promoting the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) endorsed Judgment Free Generation initiative and by implementing his original Bully-Proof Survival Kits and Bully-Proof Bully Boxes in the local schools and the BGAC affiliated military youth centers across the Pacific Region. Christian has created a website at www.christianashford.com for speaking engagements and partnership to end teen bullying.
The military life has been rewarding for Christian, by affording him awesome experiences such as his family being featured in an Army documentary about military life during a deployment at Ft. Hood, TX. Christian plays an active role in supporting his local military chapel and school-related community projects. Christian’s time at Hillside Youth Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) has taken volunteering and community service to a whole new level.
Christian’s volunteer portfolio includes supporting various Chapel Ministries at JBLM for events to serve thousands of Service and Family Members such as the JBLM Back 2 School Bash, Harvest Fest, and Vacation Bible School programs. In addition, Christian serves as the president of the Keystone Club and mentors middle school age males in the local school district.
MAJ Ashford serves in the U.S. Army and is currently a student at the Joint Combined and Warfighting School at Norfolk, VA, and will be assigned to United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) at Scott Airforce Base later this fall. Daisy Ashford is a teacher and supports chapel ministry at JBLM as the Religious Education Coordinator at Lewis North Chapel.
