The Webster County School Board has approved a security firm’s proposal for this school year.
Superintendent Brian Jones presented the proposal for school security for the 2019-20 school year from TBL Security on July 15. The board approved Jones’ recommendation that its proposal for one armed officer per school every school day be approved, meeting minutes reflect.
Other Action
Other action taken by the board on July 15, according to the minutes:
• Approved the student handbooks for each school for the 2019-20 school year.
• Approved a proposal from Watkins, War and Stafford to provide professional audit services for the district for fiscal years 2019-21.
• Approved a request from Special Education Director Raven Hawkins to approve Gina Sanderson to provide psychoeducational evaluations for the district as an independent education evaluator as needed.
• Approved a request to use Sisters Photography as school photographer for the 2019-20 school year at East Webster Elementary.
• Accepted a letter of resignation indicating that Jacqueline Meek was resigning from her position as teacher at East Webster and Eupora high schools, effective July 9.
• Approved the hiring of Cadedrie Patterson and Kelly Ginn as assistant teachers at East Webster Elementary School, effective Aug. 1.
• Approved a recommendation from Eupora High School Principal Adam Dillinger that Katie May be transferred to secretary from assistant teacher effective July 16.
• Approved a recommendation from Jones to approve a request from a teacher to participate in a leadership program and allow up to three professional days leave, with any additional time missed to be taken from personal or sick leave. Rana Mitchell (District 2) abstained.
• Approved requests from parents to have their children released from the Webster County School District to attend school in another district because of their parents’ employment and to be accepted into the WCSD because of a parent’s employment.
• Approved the financial reports for June and the July docket of claims.
The board met in executive session to discuss personnel matters with no action taken, according to the minutes. The board had a public hearing on the 2019-20 budget before the meeting and its adoption was scheduled for Aug. 12.
Special Meeting
The board had a special meeting July 30 with all members except Marilynn Brown (District 4) present.
Meeting minutes indicate that Maintenance Director Kim Jones addressed the board regarding a current project; no action was taken.
This action taken by the board on July 30, according to the minutes:
• Approved the list of recommended bus turnarounds for 2019-20.
• Approved a request for Blended Pre-K to start school Aug. 13.
• Accepted personnel action forms from Dillinger and Transportation Director Michael Adkins indicating that Riley Brown was resigning from his positions as teacher and bus driver, effective July 31.
• Approved the hiring of Jennifer Brock as a teacher at East Webster Elementary School, effective Aug. 1.
• Approved the hiring of Chastity Swindle and Kayla Tindall as assistant teachers at Eupora High School, effective Aug. 1.
• Approved the hiring of Hattie Golliday as a full-time Food Service worker, effective Aug. 5.
• Approved the hiring of Heather Butler as a bus driver, effective Aug. 6.
• Approved substitute teacher recommendations for 2019-20.
• Approved a request from Federal Programs Director Sue Anne Boatman and Hawkins to adjust the salary of Sharon Tindall, bookkeeper for Federal Programs and Special Education, as reflected in their respective plans for FY 2020.
• Approved requests for students to be accepted to attend the Webster County School District upon their release from another district or because their parents are employed in the WCSD.
• Granted permission to advertise for bids on 16th Section hunting and fishing leases
• Approved requests from parents to have their children’s lunch account balance refunded as their children will not be attending school in the district.
• Approved the hiring of Javores McKinney as a substitute teacher at Eupora High School, effective Aug. 1.
• Approved the extra June docket of claims.
The board adjourned until Aug. 12 and will have its next regular meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 16.
