A sixth-grade math teacher at Eiland Middle School, Marcie Bennett, has placed first in the State of Mississippi for her use of the Study Island educational program.
Study Island is a web-based supplemental tool geared specifically to each individual state’s standardized assessments. Study Island was built to meet and reinforce each state’s unique standards. The program helps students in kindergarten through 12th grade master state-specific, grade-level academic standards in a fun and engaging manner, and combines rigorous content that is highly customized to specific state standards in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies with interactive features and games that engage students and reinforce and reward learning achievement.
Bennett stated that use of the program has greatly enhanced her students learning process and she has sixth-grade students who are now working on first-year algebra. As Study Island is a web-based program students can work in class and outside the classroom.
Bennett added that once her students ‘bought in’ they were eager to use the program and have completed over 8,000 sessions this school year. Sessions typically last for 30 minutes.
With the growing emphasis on state assessment tests Study Island has become a valuable learning too.
