At their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 20 the Louisville Board of Aldermen handled an agenda of routine matters. Mayor Pro-Tem Eugene Crosby presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Will Hill.
The Board voted unanimously to approve entering in the Statewide Mutual Aid Compact. SMAC began in 1995 by MEMA as a way to provide a more effective use of resources in times of disaster. It provides a way for cities and counties to request and receive help from each other when local resources are exhausted. SMAC provides a mechanism for assistance to come from different parts of the state and it addresses the issues of liability, compensation, direction and control in a uniform manner. SMAC allows members of the compact to have a mutual aid agreement with both the state and other compact members.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to set a hearing for unclean property at 162 W. Jefferson St., owned by Applewhite, for January 8, 2019.
• Voted 5-0 to authorize payment to the MS Municipal Service Company for $40.83K for annual liability payment.
• Voted 5-0 to authorize payment to Trustmark Bank for $80.67K for semi-annual payment for 2016 GAN.
• Voted 5-0 to declare Monday, December 31 as a holiday per proclamation of Gov. Phil Bryant.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board of Aldermen is Tuesday, December 4 at 5:30 p.m. By Mike Robertson
