The Mathiston Fire Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Department and EMS were dispatched to a two-car collision on Highway 403 about 6:35 p.m. June 12.
The vehicles involved were a black Dodge Charger and a white Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck. According to Mathiston Fire Chief Lee Gilliland, the Charger was traveling south on Stallings Road into Holland’s Crossing and the truck was traveling east on Highway 403.
Gilliland and Deputy Sheriff Dillion Cates said the driver of the Charger pulled out accidentally in front of the truck, which struck the Charger on the passenger side. The sun was shining in the eyes of the Charger’s 16-year-old driver, according to Gilliland.
A 13-year-old restrained passenger in the Charger was taken by ambulance to the helipad at the Mantee Fire Department. He was first flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and then to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Gilliland. Occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
