The Nation's Weather for Thursday, January 5, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
An atmospheric river will continue to inundate California
with flooding rain tomorrow, with heavy snow in the
mountains. Colder air will allow snow showers to fly in the
western and central Great Lakes; however, recent warmth and
temperatures above freezing should limit accumulation to an
inch or less. A departing cold front is expected to cause a
spotty morning thunderstorm from the Outer Banks of North
Carolina southward to northeastern Florida. Thunder could
linger longer in the northern and central Florida Peninsula,
but severe weather is not expected. Snow will blanket
northern and central Maine, with a wintry mix changing to
snow in southern Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and upstate
New York. Rain will be favored in the warmer air in
Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
